Jaydream (they/them) is a mixed 2nd generation mestizo and white gender fluid queer person. Jaydream is living and practicing on the land of the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ, Kiikaapoi (Kickapoo), Washtáge Moⁿzháⁿ (Kaw / Kansa), and Wažáže (Osage) people. Land that was stolen, colonized, and renamed to Kansas City.
Jaydream embraces a beginner’s mentality and is eager to listen and learn as they continue down the yogic path. By diving deeper into their yoga philosophy studies as well as learning the historical context surrounding this ancient practice they now know that colonization, imperialism, gatekeeping, appropriation and homogenization of diverse and ancient traditions have shaped the modern asana (postural) practice we call yoga. Because of this they believe it is important to practice and facilitate classes from a space that honors yoga as an act of unification/the breaking down of binaries, discernment, and, ultimately, liberation.
Jaydream is passionate about accessibility and advocates for yoga for everyone regardless of age, size, race, gender, ability, or economic status. They are intentional about creating a welcoming space to guide folks through the many embodiment practices that the 8 limbs of yoga provide. They utilize yoga equipment like blocks, blankets, bolsters, etc. and encourage folks to cultivate a relationship with their intuition/inner teacher that will allow them to confidently meet their ever changing needs. Jaydream has personally been empowered by this practice and is infinitely grateful for the many gifts that yoga teachings have presented to them. It is from a space of gratitude that they wish to share these resources with others.
